Aloha Facebook

Monday, August 1st, 2011

Like an exotic temptress, the topic of Hawaii is all over Facebook: except on my own wall, that is. I saw some friends updating their stats, some just came home from the Aloha State, some are just packing for a trip, while others are already flaunting great pictures and thanking their generous hosts.

There’s no denying that Hawaii is one of my dream destinations. One reason why I want to go there is because I assume that being there would feel like being at home in my tropical hometown, the Philippine Islands. The weather is great, the beaches are just heavenly and food is familiar. I frequent Hawaiian restaurants here in the US and I would describe the food that they offer as a delicious mix of several international cuisines.

Aside from that, Hawaii is almost always depicted as a picturesque paradise in movies and lifestyle shows. I just can’t wait to experience Hawaii and see it’s beauty with my own two eyes. Who knows, we may be able to find some Hawaii real estate for sale and buy it IF we can afford it someday… But I would have to wait till my little one is big enough to enjoy the vacay with me and Pop Pie. And wait for my winning lottery ticket too!

Weekend Plans

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

I was just on the phone with my sister-in-law and she was asking where we’re planning to go this weekend for our vacation… Here’s the thing, this weekend would be our only chance to go out as a family because the first weekend that my husband and I spent here was New Year’s and the last one would be my mom’s birthday. If you’d ask me, I’d like to go swimming somewhere, a nice beach or at a hot spring but that wouldn’t be possible because we have pets and can’t be away from home for a long time. So no cottages, no grilled food, no bamboo nor cabin furniture for us this weekend. We’d probably just go shopping and maybe watch a movie this weekend. We all love that so it’s sure to be fun as well!

Check your home before the vacation

Guest post written by Blair Harthford

Every year thousands of people head out the door on their way to enjoy a long-awaited summer vacation. Among the many things that vacationers must remember to do, setting the home security alarm correctly should be at the top of the list.

There are several other things that must be done. If you have newspaper delivery, make sure to notify them that you will be away for whatever time, or have a trusted next-door neighbor pick up the paper every day. Newspapers strewn on the lawn or by the door is a sure sign that the property is empty.

Make sure that all windows and doors are locked. The lawn should be mowed just before you leave the property, as tall grass is another sign that the residence is not occupied. If you have pets, either leave them at a kennel or with friends and relatives that can care for them properly. Don’t leave any pet food outside the house, as it could invite rodents or other animals that might try to get in the house. Before our family went on vacation, we contacted a home security in New Yorkcompany to install an alarm system in our home.

Just slept for most of the day because for the entire work week, hubby is on-call and last night, he got unlucky; he was called back to work at about nine in the evening and then again at four in the morning. I had to go with him when he went for the second time because he was sleepy and I was scared he’d fall asleep while driving.

Work has been stressful for us lately and sometimes he says wants to quit because he wants to spend more time with me. Work is actually keeping us from doing things that we want to do like visit someĀ Orlando theme parks with his family and maybe meet some friends there or come home to the Philippines anytime we please or have a baby anytime soon. But we’re still thankful that he has a stable job in this time of recession when getting laid off work is becoming more common than staying on a job.
