My Soccer Hunk

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

Having been a soccer player as a teenager, my hubby once again become a sports enthusiast because of the viral popularity of the Philippine Azkals – the Philippine soccer/football team consisting of players with various international accents, LOL!

I often catch him watching videos, on YouTube, of games that he had missed. It’s fascinating to me how he voices his opinions about the team’s strengths and weaknesses from an experienced player’s prospective.

Funny that I got the chance to write about this today, although I meant to do this days ago when I was too busy to even check out football gifts for him *sad*, because it’s his birthday today… I hope my simple gift of pancit will draw a smile on his face in this special day…

Happy Birthday, Pop Pie! Elle & I love you so so much! Mwah!

This was our breakfast the other morning: garlic butter toast for Daddy (which he took and ate in the car), cinnamon sugar toast for Mommy and baked macaroni for Baby!

OK, that’s not really baked macaroni. That’s leftover spagh-aroni with a slice of American cheese that I reheated in the toaster oven. We loved it anyways…

And the third one is tin roof sundae ice cream in two waffle bowls with half a banana.

This is one of the greatest perks of pregnancy, I can eat pretty much whatever I want especially now that I have to gain more weight to cope with baby’s growth. Thankfully, I have more energy now so we can stick to our resolution to save more dough for baby by having more home-cooked meals and less dining out, take-outs and restaurant delivery. I don’t know where he got it but hubby’s also inspired to do more cooking for me and baby and I’m sooo loving it.

ZZ Plant

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

Meet my new ZZ plant. Take note: NEW! (Later, you’ll know why. Please read on.)

Also known as the Money Plant (a lot of plants are called that, duh), Zamioculcas Zamiifolia or simply ZZ plant, has been the “What’s Up” indoor plant for a while now. People (green thumb or not) are loving it because it’s really easy to take care of.  It is tough under indoor conditions, can tolerate low light, low water, and handles neglect well. It’s basically, a low maintenance plant. But be careful, every part of this plant is poisonous, so keep away from kids and pets. But that’s also a plus somehow because it repels pests too.

My husband’s grandma brought some from San Diego; one for each of our households about a year ago. She instructed me to water it every two weeks and give it much light. I also Googled it for care instructions. Despite this plant’s high tolerance for bad gardeners/owners, I have managed to kill it. How? First I re-potted it; I’m sure I was very careful in doing so. Then I left it outside so it could get much sunlight. Then I noticed that the stems and leaves look dry, so I watered it often. Then the leaves started to turn yellow and they looked heavy. One by one, they fell and I gave up. If you want to keep your plant alive, don’t do any of those! LOL

I seem to be a better Googler now because I have managed to trace the plant by its scientific name. I hope I got the right instructions this time and become a better ZZ owner too! I just have to keep in mind that this plant loves being ignored. Who knew you could kill a plant by smothering it?! ;p

Flip Flop-ped

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

Hubby woke up early to go to his volunteer work for today. He helped in flipping a house; a project of Habitat for Humanity, they say. When he arrived home, he cleaned up and we rushed to the nearest Old Navy store to get our annual supply of $1 flip flops! LOL

Thanks to my regular shopping email invitations, we never miss promotions like this. Took this photo while hubby was napping. Was his idea though. We bought a pair for almost everyone in the family.

Bayong Evolves to Green Bag

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Way before plastic bags conquered the Earth and “green bags” or reusable totes became a trendy way to help conserve the environment, the bayong or woven bag (I’m not sure what it’s really made of) has been the Filipino households’ reliable companion to market. It’s reusable, sturdy, withstands rain and wet goods and often comes in a wide variety of colors and style.

I was surprised to see this version of the bayong in one of the racks in a local store. The handles are made to feel comfortable and long enough to be carried by the shoulder so I guess this one functions as more than a bag for going to market, eh? It’s a little overpriced for that too. I think shoppers would be more interested in using these green bags if they were promotional items rather than just merchandise.

FriDate

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

Hubby did not realize that we were out on a date for the entire day last Friday. I had an appointment with the dentist at 11:30 am. And being the amazing husband that he is, he went with and waited for me.

Jollibee Burger Steak

Then we had lunch at Jollibee. I wanted to have spaghetti and chicken but figured I’d have a hard time eating that because the right side of my mouth is numb. It was difficult to even keep my mouth closed while gargling back at the dentist’s, I’d probabaly get gas trying to suck in spaghetti. So I settled for burger steak and fries, sipping my soda from the left corner of my lips.

We walked around Seafood City and did a few things there. Then headed back home.

I was doing laundry when he asked me if we can have an early dinner. We had the extra burgers that he ordered from lunch. He studied for a few hours more (that’s his main agenda). Then we went to the gym together to burn some of those fast food calories out of our system. Later still, he wanted to watch She’s Out of my League, so we drove to our second favorite theater. But we were there a bit early, so we drove around to kill time. I was having the time of my life with my soda and popcorn until I felt a headache coming.

I fell flat on the bed when we got home. He stayed up a bit more. If you asked me, he was more successful at making me feel special that day than he was at studying for his test.

Vanity

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Vanity“Vanity is my favorite sin.” A very memorable quote from Al Pacino in the movie Devil’s Advocate; also used by my friend slash sister, Dulce on her piece for senior-year speech class. I remember it every time I stare at my reflection. Not just look but, take note, stare!

If you have been reading my old posts in my other blog, you might have seen this photo of our bathroom vanity already. This is my second favorite spot in our apartment (next to the walk-in closet). I love it despite its simplicity: it has a single sink with marble countertop, two drawers with storage underneath, eight bulbs (not seen in photo) and most importantly, a mirror that extends from that wall, where the medicine cabinet is fixed, to the edge of the tub. I spend hours in the bathroom just standing up before that mirror doing all sort of stuff. My husband has learned to assume that I am curling my hair or playing with makeup every time. He sometimes misses to notice something that I’m most proud of, I keep this place clean.

Ref Raid!

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

Geez! Has it been a month since my last post?

Anyways, just remembered how hubby re-opened the fridge door when I mentioned that we had pancit. He said he thought we still had “my pancit canton” left over but swung the door shut when I told him we only had the pancit that his mom cooked last Sunday. The pancit that got him asking, “Ma, bakit yung hipon sa pancit nyo, may balat?” (Ma, why did you put shrimp with shells on your noodles?)

That look on his face was priceless!!!

Here’s a snapshot of our half-empty fridge:
