Some Practical Tips When Writing a Book

Sunday, November 13th, 2011

Writing a book is not an easy task. It involves a lot of thinking, planning and, of course, writing. If you think your excellence in writing is more than for essays and short stories and you have been planning to write your own novel, here are some of the things that may come in handy.

Some writers think that self publishing companies should be the least of their worries but it’s never wrong to prioritize it. These are small publishing companies that allow a writer to publish a book in minimum quantity. This will be very helpful if you are targeting a big publication house or planning to sell on book stores. By publishing a small number of books, you get to send samples to publishing houses or books stores without hurting your pocket that much.

Now that you know where you can publish your book, let’s start writing it shall we? The first step involves determining what kind of book you are writing. Is it a novel? fiction, non-fiction? or a self help book? When you have decided on the type of book, start thinking of your story, how the book will turn out, how it will start and how it will end. As you start writing, you will discover that there are times when ideas flow naturally and there are times that they won’t. The secret is never forcing yourself to write when you’re not up to it. Try not to give yourself a deadline and just go with the flow.

Birthdays & Presents! ;p

Sunday, November 13th, 2011

We were just at a kid’s birthday party earlier and as I was watching all the little kids go gaga over the bouncy house and the piñata, I remembered my god kids in the PI. There’s a good opportunity to shop for gifts for them but I wish there’s affordable kids christmas gifts delivery as well. Meanwhile, the hubby got inspired to plan our little one’s first birthday although it’s still a good six months from now. The hubby has a lot going on in his mind, I can hardly keep up with him. For now, I should join the little one and get some z’s. Ciao!

Getting Engaged

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

The Author of this post is Cheryl Martinez

We got engaged a few months ago and aside from planning the wedding I’m also in the middle of dealing with moving in. It’s been pretty hectic around here and since I don’t want to live together until after the big day things have gotten extra complicated. My roommate wants to move out about 2 months before the wedding which is fine, it just means we’re going to have to pay more money for me to live alone those two months. I’ve been overwhelmed with all the details – calling Ambit Energy to set up service and dealing with movers and packing my stuff – but at the end of the day I can’t wait to get married and have a life with my fiancé. I think both of us are ready for this phase in our lives and I know that once we live together things will just make sense. And I think we’re starting a trend…so many of our friends here in town have gotten engaged now, too! It’s going to be wedding heavy next year.

Monday, November 7th, 2011

I just had one of the best weekends in our married life and am looking forward to the next. It’s gonna be a long weekend with Veteran’s day coming and we have quite a few plans lined up. We got invitations to a birthday party and fight night so we wouldn’t have to worry about dinner anymore, haha! Hubby also thought we should move around some rustic furniture in our bedroom so that baby’s crib is next to our bed. All three of us could hardly fit in the bed but we want to stay close to the baby; with nights becoming colder as winter sets in, we want to be able to make sure that she’s warm enough through the night.

Teardrop Trailer

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

The hubby took us with him to the outdoor recreation center at the base one weekend when I saw teardrop trailers parked near the office. They are too cute! I wish we had the money and time to own and use one on our travels. It would sure be nice to go places while still feeling like you’re home because you’re practically carrying home behind your car. But of course owning one of those would require additional responsibilities like getting good motorhome insurance and keeping it well-maintained, and extra parking space too! Oh well, we have plenty of time to think about that and maybe save up for it…

Yay!

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

I can’t get over how cool my phone has become with the new OS update! It’s like I got an all new phone with new features. Yeah I’ve enjoyed some of those features on older phones, I’ve missed them, I’ve learned to live without them when I chose to be an iPhone user but I’m so glad that my phone is performing well now! I’m even using it as a music player again! Now I’m thinking of getting new accessories like portable speakers and maybe a new flashy case? Thanks to my SIL I don’t have to buy a battery pack because they gave me one as a birthday present!

Lovin’ iOS 5

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

Yesterday, when the SIL texted me, reminding me to update my iPhone to the new iOS 5,I was so excited that I did not wait for the baby to fall asleep, instead, I managed to connect my phone to the computer and proceed with the update while watching her and carrying her in my arms. Yeah, I am totally addicted to my iPhone so take my word when I say that this OS is the best ever! There are so many enhancements that I feel like I have a new phone! I’m glad that Apple did not hold back on making so many improvements on this one.

One of the new features is being able to backup the iPhone’s content into iCloud, which is a virtual storage. It would be most useful if you find that 16 to 32 GB of space is still not enough for you and you find yourself trying to manage your iPhone’s content too often.

In this fast-paced age of information technology, it’s always a good idea to have your precious data backed up. We have an external hard drive for extra storage but I’m still considering Online Backup Storage in case of unforeseen hardware failure.

Thirty

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

It’s sweet how being parents has changed my relationship with hubby – from partners to parents, like I said somewhere on the web… Can’t remember which social networking site, actually. Like yesterday, because of the incident (that I touched in my previous post), and what we went through together as a very young family, on our way home, he was telling me how much he loved me and baby, how we should cherish every moment because life may be too short to waste time spent together, how someday, we should all go on a cruise or a grand vacation which we should start saving up for now – enter Cape Cod vacation rental, good suggestion, eh?

I feel that this year is the beginning of still many changes in my life. I started this year at the comfort of my home in the PI, with family and friends who have completed the first part of my existence. And then we had our baby, a brand new person, a new life, a new love… It has been great so far, can’t wait for what the coming days, months, and years to come has in store for me. Cheers to thirty awesome years!

yesterday

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

Baby had a boo-boo yesterday and we had to take her for emergency care just to be sure that she didn’t hurt herself badly. We spent the entire afternoon there. Fortunately, she didn’t break a bone or anything, she was, just a little extra fussy, I guess. Unfortunately, all those poking and stretching just stressed her out for nothing because there wasn’t a clear diagnosis for her fussiness.

While I was trying to feel my arm, which I had been holding the baby with for more or less 5 hours, the hubby was busy taking pictures of our daughter, who was still smiling at the camera despite her condition. The hubby also posted the pictures in our social networking account before I could send my mom a text message. So I better not forget to tell her or she’ll freak out. I remember that time when I said on my status that my feet were killing me, she took it literally and worried that something went terribly wrong when, in fact, I was just wearing the wrong pair of shoes. Haha!

Anyways, I miss my folks, I wish I had them nearby during times like these when I also cry like a child because my own child is in pain. Or I wish we had enough dough to book a private jet and head back home anytime we wish. Daydreaming, as usual…

I was so eagerly waiting for hubby to come back from getting the mail yesterday, hoping that there would be coupons or holiday invitations there for us but to my dismay, we only got a couple of credit card bills… Oh well, there’s still a lot of time. Maybe there will be great Halloween parties around the corner where we can have fun as a family.
