Almost Done Nesting

Monday, April 18th, 2011

The hubby and I are almost done preparing our nest for little Swee’ Pea. Most of our stuff (especially hubby’s, he sure does a LOT of stuff) have either been kept in storage or donated to Goodwill or simply thrown away. There were a lot of old shoes and clothes, even several computer peripherals and hp printers that have run out of ink with the stuff that we gave away. A small pile of papers need to go through the shredder and we’re ready to finish up by vacuuming the carpet, air purifying and setting up baby furniture and gear.

The combination of home-cooked meals, dusty old stuff coming out of packing boxes, a pregnant woman unable to vacuum regularly and cold weather that wouldn’t allow for open windows has left the air in our apartment unpleasantly below desired quality.

My pregnant nose may just be getting used to it but this place needs to be aired out and ventilated before baby and her pouring guests come. We’d probably need a new dehumidifier for cleaner, crisper, healthier air.

Wait a minute, I gotta check the budget first and then update my shopping list to include that – if conditions permit…

The extended stay of rainy days have forced both me and the hubby to be domesticated. I actually find it amusing that we’re nesting together. He’s been putting off this work (unpacking since we moved) for months. And to see him finally get to it is making me unbelievably happy. But I’m not just watching the hubby bust his buns on household chores, I’m also doing my share of polishing, and organizing, or whatever I can manage to do even with my protruding baby bump. In fact, I’m even too busy to worry about how to get rid of whiteheads, or to paint my nails. So I’m putting these off for later. I’d rather beat my deadlines first to ease my mind.

Normalcy, I Miss You…

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

It’s been a month since we moved here but we still haven’t unpacked yet, still not settled in. As of now, I should be buying cheap flowers in nice autumn colors and decorating our home; if not for Christmas, then just for the season. But no. It’s still a mess and I’ll have to wait till after the hubby’s big exam to nag him into helping me.

I miss normalcy. I never thought I would, but I miss vacuuming the carpets, dusting and rearranging decor, making a mess in the kitchen that I later need to clean up. I wish I could get back to that soon. I wish I could really smell those flowers when I do get to buy them.

Yesterday, we got a letter from the management saying that there have been rattlesnakes found around the apartment complex. They’re warning all tenants not to come near snakes or try to catch it if any is seen.

That morning, before I got the letter, I was thinking about my fears. I didn’t realize that I was afraid of snakes until I saw one at the pet shop—it was close enough, just glass between us, and it was moving. Am I psychic?

Later that day, I found myself constantly shutting all drains after I use them. I even thought of placing the box of magazines over the toilet seat cover, just in case any snake tries to go up that way.

Time flies… Who would have thought that I’d grow up to be a housewife whose concerns include, where to get affordable wholesale housewares, when to change the shower curtains, what to cook for dinner, how to keep rattlesnakes outside of home?
