We spent the day at home today because baby has a number of guests eager to meet her including my uncle and his family from Nevada… We did a lot of catching up and I finally got to introduce them to my in-laws.

They had a scary story about smoke in the house. They got so scared that they called the fire department. That’s one of the advantages of being a renter – as compared to a home owner – we don’t have to worry about maintaining water pumps or water heaters or stuff like that…

Electronic Waste

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

The computer at our home in the PI sure chose a very unfortunate time to give up. It broke down a week ago so Mom and I had to use phone cards again to be able to talk at least once a week. I know she probably wants to check on us more often because I’m having the baby real soon, but we have to settle for text messages at the moment. I wonder if there are any good refurbished laptops available there.

Recycling electronics is getting more popular here these days, which is good because new and better gadgets are coming out at a crazy pace. Has anybody thought of where the old ones would go? Or how much of those need to be disposed? I guess some people just did and they’ve found some solution. It’s just up to everyone else to cooperate and maybe we can do Mother Nature a favor by reducing  electronic waste.

Jadric & TV

Friday, March 4th, 2011

My sister-in-law, her husband and their adorable toddler, were kind enough to drive me home last night. It’s their first time to see our new apartment which is not much different from our very first one except for the unbelievable amount of clutter. LOL!

We had dinner at our favorite Thai restaurant and then went back to the apartment to chat a little bit and watch some TV (we totally forgot that we wanted to pass by the mall). The topic of cable versus Satellite TV came up again when the discussion was taken to the TV service that we have now and why it is so because three-year-old Jadric was looking for DVR features which we don’t have.

Thinking about it now, I guess we would have gotten that feature for a reasonable price had we signed up for Direct TV. But then we haven’t found enough luck to get satellite TV service, both in our old and new location.

Spent an idle day at home today. I just watched my folks take turns in checking their Facebook accounts and updating their photo albums, not minding the best diet pills ads on the side of the screen. So this is how life goes here now; very relaxed, each moment taken in slowly. I got tired of sitting down eventually and fell asleep. Can’t believe how much energy an hour of sleep can make for me here. There’s really no better place than home.

Weekend Plans

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

I was just on the phone with my sister-in-law and she was asking where we’re planning to go this weekend for our vacation… Here’s the thing, this weekend would be our only chance to go out as a family because the first weekend that my husband and I spent here was New Year’s and the last one would be my mom’s birthday. If you’d ask me, I’d like to go swimming somewhere, a nice beach or at a hot spring but that wouldn’t be possible because we have pets and can’t be away from home for a long time. So no cottages, no grilled food, no bamboo nor cabin furniture for us this weekend. We’d probably just go shopping and maybe watch a movie this weekend. We all love that so it’s sure to be fun as well!

Mommy!

Saturday, December 11th, 2010

I’m so excited to come home to my family… It’s only a matter of weeks now. More than anything, I’m excited to spend time with my mom. Aside from coming home as her daughter who would feast on all the home-style cooking, enjoy the chore-less lifestyle and cherish being pampered again, I’d also be coming home as a fellow housewife and as an expectant mom.

My mom spends a lot of time alone in our house now and she has these little projects that keep her preoccupied. I guess if we had enough time and resources, we would be remodeling the kitchen or the bathroom. It’s been a while since we last had those done. Some glass tiles for a fantastic upgrade maybe? But since the hubby and I would only be spending a few weeks there, I think we’ll just spend that time catching up on our lives. And for me, learning a recipe or two perhaps?

I’m waiting for the pictures from last night to transfer to a zipped folder because Ate Malou is asking for it and she is planning to create a DVD album for Nanay.

Ate Malou also owns a DLSR camera and she is my potential shooting partner; we only have one problem, neither one of us can drive. Boo hoo!

I still haven’t figured out how to use our DSLR which hubby bought for his and his sisters graduations. He chose this one because of the fantastic camera reviews and a unique feature.

Bet the moments in this special day of Nanay’s life would be immortalized in those great pictures that we all took. And I can’t wait to watch what the man with a huge digital video camera captured, there must be really hilarious stuff in there.

Party favors

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

The hubby and I have been frequenting the craft store all week because of our current project – giveaways for Nanay’s 80th birthday on Thursday. Today the customized mugs for Nanay’s party favors were delivered; we can finally start working tomorrow.

Being at the craft store every so often, I’m now obsessing over Swarovski crystals. I’ve been thinking what item I can bejewel. Haha! I think I’m gonna do my laptop. But after making this special mug for Nanay, I think I’ll change my mind soon.

When I win the lottery, I’ll buy loose diamonds and have someone stick ‘em on my gadgets, haha!

My cousin was asking about WordPress and I sent him an email yesterday; all the while thinking that he was going to put up a site for his architectural designs or to promote his work. Turns out he and his fiancee want to make a wedsite or a wedding website. He still hasn’t replied to my email. Wish I suggested a good wedding website that would be much easier to make. Those things are free, aren’t they?

Anyways, I don’t know if I would be able to make it to their wedding late this year. My money-making schemes aren’t working so well, I don’t think I’d be able to save up enough for our homecoming trip. We’re going in the winter, so I can scratch that new pair of ugg boots from my wish list. It all depends on airfares and when it is economically best to fly. December isn’t. I wanted to back out and change it but the hubby already had his leave scheduled, so we’re going and saying goodbye to a few thousand bucks. Having mixed emotions now.

Hubby and I were at the shipping center today. We sent a package to my family. Papa is in bad need of a blood pressure monitor so we sent that along with other stuff. I am thankful for the generous and loving husband that I’ve been blessed with. Who’s silently sleeping in the couch right now, by the way. My poor baby is exhausted from working all day and beating the clock in sending that box.

We found out too late that we both didn’t have enough cash in our wallets. I received some nagging while I prayed that he doesn’t lose his temper. I would have been forced to deal with it because I owe him a lot for helping me send stuff to my folks. Fortunately, the shipping center accepts checks, which I had in my bag. Hurrah! They also accept debit, credit and ATM cards but with a 10% additional fee; which was understandable because the cost of their POS systems must be quite expensive.

Then we went to Jollibee and tried the palabok. It was OK. I kinda wished I stuck to spaghetti and chicken though. I’m not really an adventurous eater.

Now we have to wait a month and pray our package doesn’t meet crocodiles along the way. ;p
