To go or not to go

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

My hubby’s aunt just came in from the PI a few days ago. Hubby also took almost the whole week off so he’s thinking about giving his aunt a tour around town. I still haven’t decided if Elle and I should join them or if we should just stay at home. I’m excited to take Elle out knowing that she now enjoys the new sights and sounds outside home but, at the same time, I’m reluctant because I know that traveling is tiring. It is tiring for me, how much more tiring is it for an infant? And I’m not sure if she’s ready for the wild and wacky people downtown. We’ve seen nude men and one too many women wearing sexy red wigs strolling along those busy streets.

End of Summer

Saturday, September 3rd, 2011

It’s Labor Day this coming Monday which means that summer is officially over. Public pools are going to be closed, so are swimming lessons and other water activities. It also means that school is about to restart.

This summer had been fun and exciting because we spent it with Baby Elle but I am sort of saddened by the fact that I was not even able to hit the waters this year. Since I started working and making my own money, my friends and/or co-workers make it a point to go to the beach or for a swim every summer. So this summer is the first time in a while that I was not able to go swimming or beaching…

Baby Elle evidently loves the water. Even if she’s still very small, we know this because she enjoys bath time a lot! It’s unfortunate that she’s too small to go swimming for her first summer. She’s too young to wear sunblock and is therefore too young to stay under the sun for too long.

It may be a good idea for me to look for Indoor Water Parks and sell the idea (to my hubby) of visiting one even in the midst of winter or fall, whenever Elle seems ready to enjoy some splashing water fun. Winter does not have to be boring and spent entirely inside the home, there are plenty of Indoor Activities for Kids and families out there, we just need to use a keen eye, or in my case, a good internet connection!

Wifey Mode On! Again!

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

Wifey is blogging from the kitchen now… Just adding a little Pinoy touch to spaghetti sauce for my hubby. We’re forced to have pasta tonight because we’re out of rice. It’s healthier for me too because we’re using whole grain pasta which will not raise my blood sugar levels as much as white pasta would.

Baby’s cooperating and is asleep, so the hubby could just relax while he waits for dinner to be served. It feels good to be back to my multi-tasking wifey mode: cooking, while blogging, while social networking… I may still have time to check fruit baskets online which we can give away on Thanksgiving.

Workie

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

Elle is a good sleeper today, I’ve been able to do a lot of things online and some chores around the house (some we did together while we tried to get comfy with her new carrier). Maybe real soon I would be able to clean the house on a regular basis (LOL), prepare simple dishes and take working at home seriously.

I’m beginning to realize that working at home, although having some perks, have disadvantages or difficulties too. Like it would be interrupted by unexpected situations and it doesn’t pay as much as the “real” jobs, err, the ones where you actually have to show up to work. Some jobs like Reservations Clerk Jobs seem pretty simple but are also paid well. I’d like an easy job for my next job, just to transition from being a SAHM to an employee again.

Hmmm… Someday I may rejoin the corporate world again. Or maybe try something else more exciting, eh?

Greener Pastures

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

Today I found myself going through my Facebook friends to find someone who may know about houses for rent in Calgary. A friend has asked me if I knew anyone who could help her settle in or just find a good place once she migrates.

A lot of people from my country are, as hurtful as it may sound, trying to get our of there to look for better work opportunities and live better lives. The US have been fondly nicknamed “the land of milk and honey” for a very long time, but after decades, it’s now facing another economic depression and people have started to look for better places to go. Canada and Australia are only some of those pastures that seem “greener” than the US – for some people, at least.

I guess I’ve spent ample time in Facebook because on my list now, I have a few classmates who currently live and work in Canada. I also have a godmother who have raised her family there. It’s time to send them private messages to help get another friend there… Ciao for now!

While I was carrying my baby, I remembered how my mom would compare our heights (my baby’s and mine) as newborns and say that I ended up being short because I was too fond of carrying heavy objects when I was a kid – babies included. I hate to admit it but she may have a point there. My brother is 5 feet 8 inches tall. I sure hope my baby grows taller than I am so she would be standing tall, literally, before a stadiometer unlike Mom here, who doesn’t even need that to measure her height because a simple tape measure would suffice.

Next Dental Visit

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

The hubby just remembered that it has been a year now since my last visit to the dentist and has arranged to take some days off work so he could take me. I have foregone seeing my expensive cosmetic dentist (whose dental care services we most definitely can not afford if we did not have the military dental insurance) while I was pregnant because we got too busy during the time that I was supposed to have my semi-annual checkup and prophylaxis. Actually, my whole pregnancy was crazy busy because we were rushing to do and finish so many thing; some of which are still pending up to this date.

Anyways, I bet this dentist would be surprised to know that I am now a mother of a lovely 3-month old little girl. He had been waiting for me to get my driver’s license and was wishing me luck in getting it the last time that I saw him. I wonder if he would still remember me… I think he has very good memory. He wasn’t just making small talk, he actually knows his patients, which I think, is a good professional and personal trait. After my first visit and our introduction, I never came into his clinic as a stranger again. He and his staff always call patients by their first names and ask them how they have been since the last visit. And surprisingly enough, they do remember where to pick the conversation up like the last time we talked to them was just yesterday.

Weather weather

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

The weather is always crazy around this time of year when summer is almost over and fall is right around the corner… It would be extremely hot one day then cold the other. Sometimes the weather even changes within the day, we could have hot mornings and freezing evenings. I have to be sensitive to this especially now that I’m responsible for keeping not only myself but also my little one comfy at the right temperature. I’m grateful that our apartment has good heating & air conditioning systems available. Ours may not be as grand as the one in the model homes that uses modern fireplace inserts or as powerful as the centralized air-conditioning in commercial buildings but they work well and we’re happy to have them.

Seeing a number of advertisements on TV that promote cashing deferred annuities, of shows related to finance with ever-broadening scope, of news about cuts that the government are planning to make and watching my dear daughter as she sleeps, a perfect picture of tranquility had me torn between making more to cover our family’s finances and being a full-time mommy. It’s a tough choice. If I could only manage to balance everything and have enough time to meet all my responsibilities, I would not have to make a choice… For now, I choose being a mommy. It’s more important and rewarding as of now.

My Soccer Hunk

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

Having been a soccer player as a teenager, my hubby once again become a sports enthusiast because of the viral popularity of the Philippine Azkals – the Philippine soccer/football team consisting of players with various international accents, LOL!

I often catch him watching videos, on YouTube, of games that he had missed. It’s fascinating to me how he voices his opinions about the team’s strengths and weaknesses from an experienced player’s prospective.

Funny that I got the chance to write about this today, although I meant to do this days ago when I was too busy to even check out football gifts for him *sad*, because it’s his birthday today… I hope my simple gift of pancit will draw a smile on his face in this special day…

Happy Birthday, Pop Pie! Elle & I love you so so much! Mwah!
